SALAM DEPARTMENT STORE – MALL OF QATAR

The ultra-thin surfaces of Kerlite are the undisputed stars of the new Salam Department Store inside the Mall of Qatar, in the Al-Rayyan Municipality, in the heart of the new Doha. The interiors of this prestigious building were designed by Stramigioli Associati for Salam Stores, one of the most important luxury retailers in the Middle East.

This contemporary design project, which combines excellence in different sectors, offers the visitor various shopping worlds to explore. The new store houses very different departments: from home design to cosmetics, from accessories to clothing (women, men and children) and jewellery. In designing the buildings, the choice of finishes reflects the desire to highlight the materials used: the furnishings were custom made with great attention to detail and also the floors were designed and developed with great expertise, together with Cotto D ‘Este.

The many surface finishes of Kerlite provided the right colours, which were chosen with the objective of keeping one colour tone for the background to be combined with a different colour for each floor, thus differentiating and characterizing the areas. Specifically, the neutral finishes, glossy and matt white, (KERLITE BLACK-WHITE – White glossy, Kerlite Black-White – Ultrawhite and KERLITE CLUNY – Champagne Adouci) were enriched each time with a third colour: Kerlite Cluny – Auvergne Adouci for the basement, Kerlite Cluny – Adouci Champagne for the ground floor and Kerlite Cluny – Auvergne Adouci for the first floor. The flooring, designed like this, manages both to have a unique character and to be discreet at the same time, adding elegance to this contemporary space. The wide range of Kerlite sizes allowed Stramigioli Associati to conceive and accomplish this project using modules with a fixed length of 150 cm and variable widths of 100/75/50/25/10 cm. Moreover, the perfect flatness of the edges, which minimizes the visibility of the ‘joints’ between one slab and another, allows uninterrupted pleasure when viewing the work of these architects.
