Private House Roermond
A spacious and cosy private home in the Netherlands, a country with a distinctly cool climate. Mindful of the country’s never-too-hot temperatures, the architects and designers who oversaw the project opted for materials that evoke the warmth of living and the natural freshness of the outdoors. Two different, but complementary materials – wood and stone – were chosen for these spaces.
The wood-effect ceramic in the bedroom area pairs well with the natural material used for the sloping ceiling with exposed beams. The stone effect, evoking a feeling of freshness, is featured on the floors and various wall coverings in the living room and bathroom. The overall visual impact is natural and inviting. The space does not contain any bright or artificial colours, ensuring a totally relaxed and natural feeling from the first glance. The owners are completely immersed in natural light from the large windows that are also featured on the roof. This lighting is also diffused on the charming walkway with wood-effect flooring that joins the two areas on the second level of the flat.
Cotto d’Este ceramic surfaces have greatly contributed to the overall appearance of the flat. The Pietra d’Iseo collection was used for the living room floor, as well as the bathroom floor and wall tiles, conveying a sense of dynamism thanks to its irregular pattern and tone-on-tone greys. This is the typical Lombard construction stone – Ceppo di Grè – found in the buildings, villas and monuments of Milan and other cities: its hallmark is its ability to customize spaces in a bold, yet elegant manner. For the bedroom area, the wood effect from the Custom-Made line was chosen to match the ceiling wood. The veining and colours of oak – chosen in the Arden variant – with sometimes subtle and sometimes pronounced streaking effects have created a warm and sophisticated atmosphere. Both Pietra d’Iseo and Custom-Made are part of the PROTECT® line: high-performance antibacterial floor and wall tiles for safe and secure living.
